What is SHA1 ?
SHA1 appeared in 1995, and designed by NSA (National Security Agency) of United States. Previously, SHA0 is published in 1993, then in 1995, NSA revised SHA0 to SHA1 with. The difference compared to SHA0 is SHA1 has more complicated message schedule.
SHA1 has 160bit output (message digest), but it rendered as hexadecimal number, so typically the length is 40 digits.
SHA1 using 80 steps which equal to 5 passes over the message. And this algorithm uses Merke-Damgård construction.
SHA-1 is cryptographically broken and should not be used for secure applications.
